Who I Am

My name is Ekta Rana, and I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. I have dedicated over twenty-five years of my life to serving others and uplifting women, families, and youth in our community.

I hold an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Justice Studies from the University of Guelph and a Diploma in Community and Justice Services from Humber College. I am also a Licensed Optician and the proud owner of my own optical business, where I have provided accessible and affordable vision care to countless families. My work has reached far beyond Toronto: I have personally made glasses for patients in developing countries, helping restore dignity and independence to those who could not otherwise afford the gift of sight. Today, I also represent Canada as a Flight Attendant and Brand Ambassador for Air Canada.

My Journey

1

A defining part of my life has been my involvement in pageantry. Winning titles such as Miss Diwali 2010, Miss Catwalk 2013, Miss India Canada 2013, Miss South Asia 2015, and Mrs. Karvachauth 2024 gave me not just crowns, but the opportunity to speak, serve, and inspire.

With these titles, I organized vision care programs, spoke to students about self-confidence and education, and hosted cultural events that brought communities together. Pageantry taught me that beauty is not only about appearance but about having the courage to stand up, represent your culture with pride, and use your voice for good.

I was honoured to be cast in the Bollywood film Fareeb, filmed here in Canada, and to share the stage with icons such as Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, and Shahid Kapoor. I also had the privilege of working in Hollywood’s The Love Guru (2008), filmed in Toronto, alongside Mike Myers and Jessica Alba. These experiences built international networks and showed me the power of representation—how standing confidently on stage can inspire others to dream bigger.

How I Have Served the Community

Community service has always been at the heart of who I am. Beyond pageantry and professional life, I have provided free or affordable eyewear to low-income families, seniors, and students in need. I have organized vision care outreach abroad, personally making glasses for patients in developing countries. I have supported local nonprofit initiatives by volunteering my time and energy to causes that help women, youth, and families thrive. I have emceed community charity events to raise awareness and support for health, education, and cultural programs. I have created mentorship opportunities for young women, guiding them in career preparation, resume writing, interview skills, and public speaking. Above all, I have consistently advocated for women’s empowerment, reminding every woman I meet that she is strong, beautiful, and capable of achieving greatness.

Now, I am ready to take the next step. I want to create something lasting—a legacy that continues beyond my titles and professional achievements. That is why I am founding Miss India Canada Universe. This will not be a typical pageant. It will be a movement where young women and girls are given mentorship, leadership training, and real opportunities to serve. They will showcase their talents, partner with nonprofits, and develop service projects that make a measurable difference in the community. At the end of the year, one young woman will be crowned as a Community Ambassador. Her role will not be about glamour, but about responsibility: to carry out a twelve-month service plan that uplifts others. This platform will celebrate women for their confidence, compassion, and leadership, proving that true beauty lies in strength and service.

Too many young women today feel unseen, unheard, or unsupported. Many are newcomers or first-generation Canadians facing barriers in education, confidence, and opportunity. At the same time, our local nonprofits need young leaders with energy, passion, and fresh ideas.

Miss India Canada Universe will bridge this gap. It will empower women to rise with confidence while delivering real, lasting impact to the community. Every participant will walk away stronger, prouder, and more prepared to lead. This is not just about crowns. This is about creating safe spaces where women lift each other up, where service is celebrated, and where leadership is nurtured.

My life has always been about turning opportunity into service—through my work as an optician, my aviation career, my years of pageantry, and my volunteer work in Toronto and abroad. Now I am ready to take all of that and build something bigger than myself. With the creation of Miss India Canada Universe, I will establish a platform that transforms pageantry into purpose, beauty into empowerment, and ambition into service.

With this grant, I will lay the foundation for a program that ensures every young woman has the chance to feel strong, beautiful, and ready to lead—not just for today, but for generations to come. This is more than a pageant. It is my purpose, and it is a movement of empowerment.
